Storyhill’s Texas two-step
What does the semi-local acoustic duo Storyhill have in common with James McMurtry, Robert Earl Keen, David Wilcox and John Gorka, but not Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams or Steve Earle?
Well, all eight acts were finalists in the New Folk Competition at the
influential Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas — but only the
first five were winners. Storyhill partners John Hermanson and Chris Cunningham took
top honors at last weekend’s 35th annual installment of the songwriters
camp-out, which started as a haven for Texas tunesmiths like Townes Van
Zandt, Guy Clark and some guy named Willie. The pair will host their
own lyrical love-in, Storyhill Fest, in their native Montana next month.
